This abandoned amusement park sits between a busy intersection and a 2,000+ acre park being created now at FreshKills. An adaptive reuse skate, bike, art park is being discussed for 2011
Safari as it is now, above, divided into 8 zones of activity.
Green Zone 1: planted area
Red Zones 2 and 3: existing buildings with bathrooms.
Violet Zone 4: miniature golf and green areas
Blue Zone 5: open area
Yellow Zone 6: covered bumper car area with flat concrete ground
Pink Zone 7: batting cage with shallow bowl shaped concrete ground
Zone 8: go kart track with gently sloping ground in a figure 8 pattern.
"Adaptive reuse" would turn Safari into a skatepark. It would retain the character of an amusement park while functioning for BMX, skate, scooters, and free play.
